Set in North Korea, this novel captures the insularity, the repressiveness, the political intrigue, all the while unwinding a nifty little mystery for the Inspector.
What is a solution in a reality that never resolves itself into anything definable? Church’s natural details are amazing, his writing is koroy polished and crisp, and his story is superbly well-crafted I can imagine the idea for Inspector O slowly evolving and b An amazing and ambitious first novel. Given the grim world that they live in, it was refreshing to find cropse O had a sense of humor.
